Root estimation in Galton–Watson trees

چکیده
Given only the free-tree structure of a tree, root estimation problem asks if one can guess which free tree's nodes is original tree. We determine maximum-likelihood estimator for tree when underlying size-conditioned Galton–Watson and calculate its probability being correct.

Verified Root-Balanced Trees
Andersson introduced general balanced trees, search trees based on the design principle of partial rebuilding: perform update operations naively until the tree becomes too unbalanced, at which point a whole subtree is rebalanced. We define and analyze a functional version of general balanced trees which we call root-balanced trees. Using a lightweight model of execution time, amortized logarith...
متن کاملDevelopments in ROOT I/O and trees
For the last several months the main focus of development in the ROOT I/O package has been code consolidation and performance improvements. We introduced a new pre-fetch mechanism to minimize the number of transactions between client and server, hence reducing the effect of latency on the time it takes to read a file both locally and over wide are network. We will review the implementation and ...
متن کاملDensity Estimation Trees
Density estimation is one of the fundamental tasks in statistics and machine learning, as it often appears as a subroutine in tasks such as regression, classification, and clustering. However, density estimation in high dimensions remains a challenging problem due to the curse of dimensionality, which affects the convergence rates of many popular density estimation techniques. In addition, comm...
متن کاملStochastic Steiner Trees Without a Root
This paper considers the Steiner tree problem in the model of twostage stochastic optimization with recourse. This model, the focus of much recent research [1–4], tries to capture the fact that many infrastructure planning problems have to be solved in the presence of uncertainty, and that we have make decisions knowing merely market forecasts (and not the precise set of demands); by the time t...
متن کاملWhy should trees have natural root grafts?
Natural root grafts occur in many tree species, but this widespread phenomenon has received only little attention. For many years, physiological aspects such as transfer of organic materials, water and minerals were considered their major significance. Better anchorage in flooded areas or in windy habitats was also proposed to select for this character. I propose that root grafts provide severa...
